Are you Accountable?

SEO 'experts' are a dime a dozen these days. Every time I go to a new networking event, there are a handful of SEO gurus, social media managers and email marketers in the room. A few of them are pretty good at what they do. Most are struggling to make ends meet, often because, while they understand their core competency well, they haven't yet learned what it takes to run a business. And that missing skill set is not only killing them, it kills the work they do for their clients.

One of the most critical skills needed to run a business well is also critical to getting the online presence for your business where it needs to be: staying accountable to the goal, and to the strategic plan.

If you're not accountable to the goal, you find that you change campaigns frequently, based on what area is currently 'hot' or 'cold' in your field. That's okay, but if you have a clearly defined long term goal, you're going to build a much stronger web presence by focusing on that for a sufficiently long period of time.
